MAGA of SA was formed in the tradition of the Mexican American Golf Associations of California, which started in 1963. The initial purpose was to provide a means for Mexican Americans to have access to the game of golf. Over the years the game of golf has evolved and been opened to minorities more and more indicating the success of these organizations. MAGA chapters are now located throughout California, Arizona, and in Texas.

MAGA of SA, Inc. was established on March 2, 2016, and is a 501(c)(7). We are open to all who enjoy the game of golf. Anyone is eligible to become a member without regard to age, race, ethnic origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation or skill level.

To provide a means to enjoy the game as well as each other’s company and earn a little prize money along the way. We have players with single digit handicaps and those with higher handicaps, all competing in gross and net events under the Rules of the USGA. MAGA of SA maintains a handicap system for its members through the Texas Golf Association. We have events scheduled every other week, sometimes on Saturday and other times on Sunday at different courses in and around the San Antonio area.

Annual membership dues are presently $70 per person. The individual tournament fee is $25 (does not include your green fee) and goes toward the prize money and closest-to-the pin contests.

There are optional side games of gross skins, net skins, and deuces. Gross Skins and Net Skins games are $10 each, and deuces game is $5 (a deuce is a gross score of 2 on any hole). All Deuces are paid out. You can choose one, two, or all three optional side games.

Each year members from the chapters in California, Arizona, and Texas gather for a two-day tournament of individual stroke play called the Western Regional. The Western Regional is hosted by one of the chapters from one of the states and rotates between states each year. It is a fun-filled weekend with members from all the MAGA chapters.
